Competitive Matrix

Side-by-side comparisons revealing how products actually perform. Every cell in the matrix is filled from something observed in a lab, not from a vendor's feature page.

What it answers

The questions this work is for.

Which product actually leads, and where?

Category leadership is rarely uniform. A tested matrix shows where each product is genuinely ahead and where it is coasting on reputation.

Are we comparing like with like?

Vendors define the same capability differently on purpose. Testing against one set of criteria removes the ambiguity.

Which differences matter to a buyer?

Not every gap changes a decision. The matrix separates the ones that do.

Where are we exposed?

The cells where a rival is materially stronger, stated plainly enough to act on.

What you receive

Evidence, not assertion.

A comparison matrix across the products in scope, scored against agreed criteria, with the underlying evidence documented behind each score. Suitable for roadmap discussion and for sales enablement.

How it runs

Inside your lab.

All OpenRival engagements begin with access to a private lab environment where your team can independently test rival products. Competitive Matrix is optional technical work performed by OpenRival engineers within that lab to generate documented, evidence-based findings. One product per lab, isolated from every other environment we operate.

Questions

About competitive matrix.

What is a competitive matrix?

A competitive matrix is a structured side-by-side comparison of competing products against a common set of criteria. An OpenRival matrix is populated from hands-on testing in a private lab rather than from published materials.

How many products can be compared?

As many as are procured. Each product runs in its own isolated lab, so products can be added on independent timelines.

Can you compare against our own product?

Yes. Your product is the one you already have access to, which usually makes it the simplest column in the matrix.
