Lab activities / Usability Assessment

Usability Assessment

Objective evaluation of usability and ease-of-use from real user flows. Usability is the part of a competitive position that never appears on a feature list and frequently decides the deal.

What it answers

The questions this work is for.

How long does it take to get value?

Time from first login to a result a user would care about. Measured, not estimated.

What does onboarding actually feel like?

The steps, the friction, the places a new user stalls.

What burden falls on the administrator?

Configuration, permissions, and maintenance work that a demo never shows.

Where is their experience better than ours?

The uncomfortable question, answered from evidence rather than opinion.

What you receive

Evidence, not assertion.

A documented assessment of the flows in scope, with screenshots at each step, timings where they are meaningful, and specific friction points identified rather than characterised.

How it runs

Inside your lab.

All OpenRival engagements begin with access to a private lab environment where your team can independently test rival products. Usability Assessment is optional technical work performed by OpenRival engineers within that lab to generate documented, evidence-based findings. One product per lab, isolated from every other environment we operate.

Questions

About usability assessment.

What is a competitive usability assessment?

A competitive usability assessment is a structured evaluation of how a rival product behaves in the hands of a user: onboarding, core flows, administration, and the friction encountered along the way. It is performed on the running product in a private lab.

Is this the same as a UX review?

It is narrower and more evidential. The output is what happened when specific flows were walked, documented step by step, rather than a critique against design principles.

Who defines the flows?

You do. Most clients bring the flows that matter to their own buyers, and we run those.
